ABOUT CLICKED

The modern news consumer ignores Weblogs and online citizen journalism at his own peril. But not everyone has the time to keep track of what's going on the Web. With this blog we hope to track the highlights of what's being discussed online so when news breaks from the Web, we're ready.

Will Femia is a Weblog enthusiast who, through good fortune and dumb luck, was introduced to the form as his position as chat producer for MSNBC.com careered into obsolescence. On any given day, Will can be found having already spent an unhealthy amount of time squinting at a computer screen.

Elizabeth Edwards open interview

Posted: Thursday, September 28, 2006 10:31 PM by Will Femia

I'll have the opportunity today (12:30 p.m. ET) to speak on the phone with Elizabeth Edwards.  If you have any questions you'd like me to include in the interview, let me know through comments here or the e-mail link in the margin on the left.  I post the audio shortly after the call.

UPDATE:  Done. You can hear it here.  This is the third interview I've done this week, but the first one published.  I consider the chat series a work in progress so I appreciate your feedback.  The biggest issue that plagues me at the moment (ask me in a few minutes and I'll have a different one) is whether I'm being too general in the questions I ask.  The balancing act is that we want people who haven't read the book to have a reason to listen, but fans should also find enough specifics to feel like they're making a connection.  Anyway, if you have any thoughts, feel free to share.

"Is there a name for these? I feel like I've seen a few online. Escher-like animations?" Looks rather like a Rube Goldberg cartoon.
Definitely "Rube Goldberg--esque"! I really like it...
Hi! I love your site and a fan for quite a while. You know what bugs me in interviews? When someone is there talking about for example, being part of a group of kids like the ones in Colorado this past week. The interviewer asks, so what was it like to have a person hold a gun to your head? Or they have lost someone and ask, how did it feel when you realized your loved one was dead? DUH!!! I have so much faith in you that you won't be that kind of a jerk. Asking what they want to share of the experience, and leaving it open, great! Have a ball. And what do you want to know? I'd imagine you have some pretty interersting ideas of things to ask. Thanks so much! ubhape2!
Lynda, I totally agree about those ridiculous "how did you feel" questions. I've heard cable news anchors ask victims, "How excruciating was the pain?" What kind of answer can you get from that?? "Reeeeallly excruciating!" I was interested in the trick Brian Williams used in his Elizabeth Edwards interview. He announced a round of word association and just called out terms. That certainly saves the trouble of having to construct questions. Edwards is well-spoken enough to be able to just keep talking on themes as they're presented, so it worked. I don't know if I could do that without feeling like I was copping out.
I think that Elizabeth Edwards is doing the Right thing with taking her kids on the campaign trail-it shows that family(Americas foundation and God ordained)is important!
