ABOUT CLICKED

The modern news consumer ignores Weblogs and online citizen journalism at his own peril. But not everyone has the time to keep track of what's going on the Web. With this blog we hope to track the highlights of what's being discussed online so when news breaks from the Web, we're ready.

Will Femia is a Weblog enthusiast who, through good fortune and dumb luck, was introduced to the form as his position as chat producer for MSNBC.com careered into obsolescence. On any given day, Will can be found having already spent an unhealthy amount of time squinting at a computer screen.

Magic in America

Posted: Tuesday, October 31, 2006 11:52 AM by Will Femia

I've published the audio of our chat with Christine Wicker about the practice of magic in America.  The interview runs about 26 minutes, so the file is kind of large.  She was a good guest though.

I completely understand that politicians sometimes get taken out of context, or use words that they later might wish they hadn't in order to be precise...but in this case, there is simply no way that Kerry's remarks can be miscontrued: he was belittling the troops. He was stating - or at the very least implying very strongly - that people who are "uneducated" or otherwise lacking in social skills have no choice but to enlist in the military and therefore become mindless grunts. His comments were NOT a disguised attack on the president or the war in Iraq - he was stating what so many of the progressive/elite/liberal people believe to be true: that military members are somehow "less than" regular Americans, and have no choices in life or contributions to make to society, etc. People of Kerry's ilk truly believe themselves to be "better" than most people, but definitely far above the lowly enlisted people who are too brainwashed or poor or uneducated to know any better. Kerry stated publicly what many "liberals" believe to be true, and he got caught, and his back-pedaling and excuses ("botched joke?") will never earn back ANY of the goodwill that he may have once had with military members (and their families).
What age do you think trick or treating should stop ? I think kids should decide if they are to ols because there is no law that say's you are to old. People have made coments on some kids being to old to trick or treat last evening.
