ABOUT CLICKED

The modern news consumer ignores Weblogs and online citizen journalism at his own peril. But not everyone has the time to keep track of what's going on the Web. With this blog we hope to track the highlights of what's being discussed online so when news breaks from the Web, we're ready.

Will Femia is a Weblog enthusiast who, through good fortune and dumb luck, was introduced to the form as his position as chat producer for MSNBC.com careered into obsolescence. On any given day, Will can be found having already spent an unhealthy amount of time squinting at a computer screen.

Mostly light fare

RvD2: Ryan vs. Dorkman 2 - The hotly-anticipated sequel to the original YouTube phenomenon. I know some of you roll your eyes every time I like to one of these light saber fights, but there's no question these kids are talented.  It's an entertaining fight scene regardless of your stance on Star Wars spin=offs.  P.S. It's seven minutes long.  There's a link to a high quality version as well.

UFO science key to halting climate change: former Canadian defense minister - This guy was Canadian Defense Minister in 1963.  Roswell was in 1947.  Would a Canadian Defense Minister have knowledge of other countries' UFO technology?  Would factoring in alien technology be part of how countries assess each other's military capability?  Probably more fun to speculate about than the facts would bear.

Matthew Yglesias devotes considerable thought to the results of a study that shows that married women do more housework than they did when they were single and men do less.  Actually, the amount of thought Yglesias gives it is nothing compared to what his commenters do.

Any casting suggestions for the new Valerie Plame movie?  I'm thinking Sharon Stone for Plame, maybe Diane Lane?  Wilson is harder.  Maybe Dustin Hoffman?

VoteForTheWorst seeks to organize American Idol votes to keep the lousy people on the show.

Project Epoc Lets You Control Video Games with Your Noggin' - I love the idea of mind controlled machines.  Apparently this is going to be demoed next week, so maybe it's not just a pipe dream.

George Bush has become a scapegoat for so many problems, what's going to happen when he leaves office and the problems are still around?  Right wing bloggers have been arguing for years that Bush-bashers are prone to losing sight of an issue's meat in favor of attacking the man.  This essay points out that we shouldn't expect behaviors to change much once a new president is in office.  Instead we'll just hear a new excuse.

The Onion will be adding video.

Spider Man in Abu Dhabi - Not the hero, that French guy who climbs buildings.

I'm making a difference - It's a little funny how much this resembles the old hoax mail about Microsoft conducting a study and they'll pay you for forwarding e-mail to all of your friends.  This isn't a hoax though.  In fact, I got an internal note from Microsoft about it.  The idea is that you tag your name with a charity and when you IM they contribute a share of their ad revenue to that charity.  I don't know what that means in terms of actual dollars.  The upgrade to you IM is no big deal.  So far the only teeny tiny nagging thing I don't like about it is that it puts a big icon next to my name when I'm IMing.

Can you name 50 states in 10 minutes?

Things you can do at home when you're bored

X-Ray kiss - Since I know some folks like to play with URLs, let me tell you right now that if you do you'll stumble upon some weirdly NSFW material.  I also found this one of an X-Ray lick.  Actually the whole image library looks like an interesting grab bag.  Again, I can't guarantee what you'll find.

A round up of HDR tutorials - This is the kind of thing I imagine we'll see more of when free online Photoshop becomes a reality.

Ever had one of those days when you feel like a bug on the windshield of life?

Speaking of being wrecked by a car, at least this guy didn't need the jaws of life to get out of this wreck.

After the Boston bomb squad blew up a traffic measuring box last week the parodies have begun to arrive:

You might be a nerd if...

The bug images finally answer the age old question...Whats the last thing that goes through a bugs mind before it hits your windshield? Looks like they were trying to stop to me.
I have to admit- those kids did a good job on rvd2! Maybe someone will notice and get them a job!
Regarding what is going to happen when George leaves office, this is rather simplistic. Unless they think the Iraq war/debacle will end instantly when he leaves, the deficit he created will instantly be reversed, the side effects of many policy decisions will instantly revert, there will be a lot to complain about. Of course it is silly to blame GWB for muslims blowing each other up in Iraq, unless you consider that the reason that is happening has a lot to do with how the war and its aftermath was prosecuted. It always amazes me when people act as though there are no side effects of what we do. Afghanistan is falling apart in part because GWB was so quick to attack Iraq (and not help/fund Afghanistan to the level promised), thereby upsetting our allies in Europe and also losing critical military units (to Iraq). Ignoring consequences of actions, as though each stands on its own, is just silly and wrong-headed. Of course any Democrat would have to make hard decisions, and not all will be popular, but a pattern of disastrous decisions by the current administration cannot be ignored or forgotten just because we have changed president.
Every president has to deal with the debris of the outgoing administration. Each and every president has to deal with opponents and hecklers no matter what their party affiliation might be. Once the finger-pointing starts it never ends. For instance, how about Clinton and his wanna-be President wife stealing national historic items from the White House on their way out? Goes to prove you can say negative things about any president. I for one respect each one for putting themselves in this horrid and compromising situation. Some of them I agree more with on political, economic, social, and national defense issues. Some of them miss the mark all the way around. Some of them are a mixed bag. What it comes down to for me is that no matter what, none of them will do exactly what I want. So I vote for the lesser evil and hope for the best every 4 years.
I think Michael Douglas would be good casting for the role of Joseph Wilson. Diane Lane sounds good for Plame
I got all 50 states with 4:03 to spare but got hung up for over a minute on Iowa and New Jersey. My father-in-law is sick...he can do all 50 states AND their capitals in less time than I did the states in. Before 10 minutes was up, he had all 43 presidents too (he did the test a while back on paper).
I’m imagining the mind-reading game controller in a couple of generations, when it can be used for inputting text. Though I do worry my first memo will end up reading something like this: Dear Boss, Regarding the TPS report... your secretary is really cute... I’m expect the final numbers from Marketing by the end of the day... I can’t wait for happy hour. I wonder if she’ll be there... Early forecasts look promising... I hope she wears that red dress again.
I can't believe I missed Alaska and Hawaii...
I named all 50 states in less than 5 minutes. I think this may be because 1) I love Geography, and 2) I'm from the Midwest. So many people I've met from the East and West coasts have trouble with states' names because, for many of them, middle America is just one big blur.
I had 49 states with 3 min to go and i couldnt come up with Wyoming
