ABOUT CLICKED

The modern news consumer ignores Weblogs and online citizen journalism at his own peril. But not everyone has the time to keep track of what's going on the Web. With this blog we hope to track the highlights of what's being discussed online so when news breaks from the Web, we're ready.

Will Femia is a Weblog enthusiast who, through good fortune and dumb luck, was introduced to the form as his position as chat producer for MSNBC.com careered into obsolescence. On any given day, Will can be found having already spent an unhealthy amount of time squinting at a computer screen.

That anti-Oprah video

The piece that appears to be providing the hook for the Oprah backlash story is this L.A. Times blog entry on how much her favorability ratings have fallen since her Obama endorsement. Weirdest is the number of views on the video. Four million views of a video that doesn't include a talking dog, a skateboard nut smash or a bikini girl? Who the heck is watching this thing?

You...?
This just seems like more run of the mill "everyone has to think and believe what we believe or they should be ostracized" propaganda from the religious right.

*Yawn*

When will people realize that religion is a lot like your genitals - great if generally kept to yourself and only brought out on request.
That's not what this is at all, Justin. The video is addressed to Christians - Christians who are confused or worried about how Oprah seems to be influencing their faith.
That is the longest commercial for a book that I have ever seen.  It seems someone's mad they didn't get on the Oprah book list.
I think it's funny they deleted all the pro-Oprah comments, then disabled commenting on the video. Insecure much?
If you want to hate Oprah, do it for the reasons listed on that episode of "Root of All Evil", not because she's advocating non-denominational faith. If anything, it's one of her more meritable accomplishments. The more accepting we are of other people's faith, perspective, and world-view, the more likely we are to establish peace in our time. Radical extremists Muslims claim that there is only one way and want to kill all others who do not follow it. Seriously, how sane is that?
Oprah, religion, and 7 minutes of my life I will never get back...of course I only have myself to blame...
I would not say that Oprah is trying to get people to accept everyone's faith or that she is creating/endorsing some kind of new religion. I would say that she is trying rationalize her own rejection of Christianity. Honestly, I've heard it all before in the name of tolerance, except it really isn't tolerance. It's just intolerance aimed at  a different group of people.

Really, this isn't new. Anyone who has ever watched Oprah for more than about five minutes knows that she is kind of "new agey." People just try to project their own beliefs onto her, so they think she believes what they believe until something like this comes out and they realize the difference.
Anyone that turns to Oprah for spiritual guidance needs more help than she can give them.
I got this video on facebook and it nearly made my head explode... I am kinda of sick of Christians...and here I am one myself... let Oprah do what she wants... I think if Christianity has lasted this long they don't have work about Eckhardt Tolle being the next best to JC.
The Second Coming has occurred, and it seems  Oprah has assigned herself the part of the Savior.  Think she would die on the Cross to save you? Only if there is a buck to be made.
Will,
I thought I sent a similar video about her on 3-18-08? My whole point was, “Why would Obama have her speak for him at a political rally if she is so wishy washy ?”  She seems to believe everything she reads, but she must not read the Bible because she can't even quote it correctly.  We Christians would like her to not call herself an expert on a subject she is not familiar with. I won't be surprised if she doesn't join up with the guy who claims to be Christ who was from Puerto Rico. (I will not give the guy a link out of respect of the real one.) Oprah reminds me of those philosophers of Athens.  I feel like Paul did in Acts 17:16-33.  I'll just let him speak for me…

Justin,
As for religion, “we” all should think before we speak--read James 1:26...

Mike and also Caren,
We don’t want to kill her—we just want her to shut up and listen.  She wouldn’t let the Christians tell their side on her show.  I can’t give you the video because she pulled it off Youtube.  She also deleted the negative comments on her videos and disabled it, too.

Oprah,
If you read this, please leave Jesus' name out of your talks—you’re using his name in vain. (I hope she doesn't have the ability to censor this blog #)
Oprah is pushy. She has done so much good in the world that people are likely to follow whatever she dictates. God never meant for us to argue the bible with non believers. We are to present the gospel. But arguing with someone who has been blinded to the word of God is fruitless.
