ABOUT CLICKED

The modern news consumer ignores Weblogs and online citizen journalism at his own peril. But not everyone has the time to keep track of what's going on the Web. With this blog we hope to track the highlights of what's being discussed online so when news breaks from the Web, we're ready.

Will Femia is a Weblog enthusiast who, through good fortune and dumb luck, was introduced to the form as his position as chat producer for MSNBC.com careered into obsolescence. On any given day, Will can be found having already spent an unhealthy amount of time squinting at a computer screen.

Meltware

I've been ordering a bunch of gifts online for the holiday season. Since the gifts aren't for me, I don't feel any particular compulsion to sign up for a store account if I don't have to - particularly given the amount of spam I'm likely to incur as a result. Long story short: Melt Mail gives you temporary e-mail forwarding in case you just want your order confirmation number or the "click here to confirm" mail but don't want to be a lifelong correspondent with whatever site is providing you with holiday trinkets this year.

It's just as easy keep a separate hotmail or other free email account. I have one that I only use for confirmations and store accounts.  That way they don't clog up my "real" email account, and I just go in once a month or so and do a mass delete.  I use it to comment on blogs too :)
Five years ago a friend lost her father and was having a lot of trouble dealing with it.  I saw a book on Amazon about dealing with grief, so on the spur of the moment I bought it for her.  Since then every time I log into Amazon I get recommendations such as (checking today's offerings):
. A Time to Grieve: Meditations for Healing
. Chicken Soup for the Grieving Soul
. Nobody's Child Anymore: Grieving, caring and comforting when parents die
. When Parents Die: A guide for Adults.

Its so depressing!
Stephen, those recommendations are cookie based. You should be able to delete your cookies in your browser and start with a clean slate.

Otherwise, I'm surprised it hasn't picked up on new searches you've done since then. I was pricing camera equipment on Amazon months ago and it's still trying to sell me camera stuff. I wonder if it has to do with hitting on a rich advertising category. Maybe you could do a few searches for cameras or something like babies or pregnancy and they'll re-align your profile.
