ABOUT CLICKED

The modern news consumer ignores Weblogs and online citizen journalism at his own peril. But not everyone has the time to keep track of what's going on the Web. With this blog we hope to track the highlights of what's being discussed online so when news breaks from the Web, we're ready.

Will Femia is a Weblog enthusiast who, through good fortune and dumb luck, was introduced to the form as his position as chat producer for MSNBC.com careered into obsolescence. On any given day, Will can be found having already spent an unhealthy amount of time squinting at a computer screen.

Extreme Sheep LED Art - Have you ever seen these shepherd dog competitions? They're pretty amazing. I had a border collie as a kid and none of us could run near it because it would try to keep us in a herd.

On the absurdity of some Twitter users.

Improv Everywhere turns a subway platform into an art gallery opening. This stunt was a few months ago but they've set it up again today so if you're in NYC, pop by 23rd Street. I've seen that idea of just putting signs on regular things described as "declared art." There's a guy named Paul Richard who does it on the street in New York City. He also deserves credit, I think, for describing certain sidewalk objects as having a "uric patina."

Best your-medium-is-dying piece I've read lately is another smart, glad-I-read-that piece from Clay Shirky. It reminds me of those emergency shows when one doctor keeps doing the CPR on the patient and another doctor has to pull him off and shout at him, "He's gone! There's nothing you can do!"

Best liquor taxonomy EVER: “the fightin’ kind, the lovin’ kind, the cryin’ kind…

More entertaining than the Daft Punk soundboard is the story of the tech exec with the random drunk guy in his apartment.

Forty-one lines about 50 states - Episode 18: In which I finally relocate to America and get all of the obligatory trite observations out of the way in one go As it happens, his "obligatory trite observations" are hysterical enough that I'm going to try to check out the other 17 episodes.

And I love whatever confidence this guy had to make him think he could back flip from one pogo stick to another. Maybe he didn't nail this one but he has to be pretty awesome to think he could pull this off (or just crazy).

Ginormous Tetris game. Down arrow turns the piece, space bar drops it faster.

Mostly I just love the word "scanwiches."

Mop Shots - I was initially skeptical that a site where people share photos of their hairstyles would be able to sustain itself but fellow cube farmers shouted me down because the overall idea of this site is so good.

World Builder - short movie

The Big Picture runs a list of photos of robots.which might not seem like a very big deal but the cumulative effect is an almost creepy realization of the prevalence of robots.

Epic prank - Remember these guys from College Humor who play horrible pranks on each other? One time one of them ruined the other's open mic comedy gig. Another time one put a marriage proposal to the other's girlfriend on a baseball stadium big screen when marriage was not on the table. Anyway, you don't have to remember the history to appreciate this one. These guys play hard.

Wee Planets: 3D panoramic photographs of Paris - I'm not sure what's 3D about these. I think they mean 360. Anyway, even if you've seen this before, this guy gives the technique nice thoughtful application. It's called stereographic projection but Photojojo called it "planets" when they published instructions.

Megan Fox to star in 'Fathom' - In case you're not familiar, Fathom will be another comic book movie. If you're not at work, take a peek at the Google image search results for Fathom for an idea of how successful this film will be.

That Jean Luc Picard - Hysterical.

Membership in The Cult of the Done Manifesto is growing at a rapid pace.

The first thing I thought of when I saw CopyTaste work was passing notes. You write in the field, submit it, and out comes a link you can share. What would I use it for? When I need more than 140 or even 280 characters to say something in Twitter but I don't have another appropriate platform to put the text on.

The Geography of a Recession - Check the "one-year change" filter. What's the deal with West Virginia? Is that the coal industry there?

ThruYOU is just about too awesome to comprehend. By what magic can this be possible?

Flickr Clock - The idea is that you tag your Flickr video with the time you shot it and then add it to the Flickr Clock group. Kind of neat to see the clips all turn to night videos as it gets later.

Readability strips away the noise on a page and gives you just the text in a format of your choice that makes it easier to read.

Padmapper puts Craigslist apartment listings on a map. I wouldn't mind something like this for other CraigsList items that you might want to see before buying.

Untitled (Frank Painting Company, Inc.)

This is the video of the weeping speeder who gets tased three times mentioned in this NYTimes piece about the Supreme Court in the YouTube age. NOTE: Outrage alert.

Watching this article being written in real time is really cool. I'd love to see someone do a silent performance with it. I looked at EtherPad to see if I could find the "time slider" functionality but it's not jumping out at me. Etherpad is a cool app though. Collaborative, simultaneous writing. (Ah, here's the answer, it's not ready yet for the public.)
