IF the bird cage gets a leak at the bottom, the water in the fish tank enters the bird cage, rising till the levels are equal, say half present height.

the birds cannot escape, small chance might directly drown, or have nowhere but perches to rest, and drown after claw tiring.

The only thing I can think of regarding that swastika building (actually 4 separate buildings) is that they committed to those L shaped barracks before thinking about how they would have to be arranged in a square plot of land. After that they just assumed nobody would publicize an aerial shot of it.

The author of the problem states (1) that the Islanders will automatically arrive at the answer to *any* logical problem and (2) that the answer *can* be deduced logically. Therefore the answer to the question is: "Everyone with blue eyes, that night" because the Islanders have already figured it out for themselves, per 1 and 2. The reader isn't required to state *how* the Islanders arrived at their conclusions because that's not the question!

Ok, here we go:

1) Swastika Building: Who cares? The swastika was around before the Nazis. Anybody who takes offense at the random configuration of buildings is looking for something to be offended by. This is just stupid.

2) Every last cop who bothers Darrow should be stripped of their badge and thrown into one big jail cell with all the "criminals" they have put away. I say "criminals" because chances are with cops like that that half of the people they have put away haven't done anything wrong. This is why I don’t like cops.
There is only one thing worse than a crooked cop, and that is a crooked politician.

3) "The Hardest Logical Puzzle in the World"???
Really? How can you possibly say that? (I don't mean you Will, I mean the guy who published the puzzle on his website) I mean, logically, you would have to have heard every logic puzzle ever created (which would also mean you would have to learn almost every language, or at least find someone to translate all the logic puzzles in languages you don't know to your language without loosing anything in the translation). Not only would you have to have heard them all, but you would have had to solve them all on your own, without help, to be able to say which is the hardest.
And, logically thinking, if you solved logic puzzle after logic puzzle, you would eventually become better at solving them. This would mean that the puzzles you solved later in this endeavor would ‘seem’ easier since you have become better at solving them.
I don’t believe that this can reliably be called the hardest logic puzzle in the world, and to do so is simply illogical.

I don't get the logic puzzle at all...or even understand what the puzzle is. Where was the question being asked?

As for the cops thing, if it's true I have no pity. Too many times I've seen a copy toss on his lights just to get through a stop light, and then see him pulled over on the side of the road just ahead. Perhaps he did need to be there, but what prevented him from waiting at the light like me? That 2 minute difference was that vital?

Michael, from what I know, the guy who posted "The hardest logic problem ever" does do a lot of them. And it is a stupidly hard logic problem.

I know the answer to it, but it took a long time, and someone helped me out. The answer is not "Everyone with blue eyes, that night." It's not lateral thinking, there's no clever answer to make it work. The answer is more "2 on day 16" or something. (That's not the right answer). The answer is actually a bit recursive. All the islanders must have figured out the solution for it to work though. They're all perfect logistians because if one person didn't know the solution, it all crumbles, and the author attempted to make it as clear and fool proof as possible.

The logic problem is odd, but not that impossible. Figure it this way-

The lady was someone with blue eyes. If you were on the island, and you never saw anyone else with blue eyes, you'd say "well, it's gotta be me" and leave right away that night. If you knew one other on the island, you'd say "maybe it's me, but if I do have blue eyes, the other guy knows he's the only one, he'll leave tonight." So, you wait, and if he doesn't leave, then you know you have blue eyes too, you'd both leave the second night. If you knew there were two other people with blue eyes, you'd do the same- wait the right number of days, because if two others left the second day, you'd know neither saw yours as brown, but if neither of those two left, then they're seeing yours as blue. With three others, you'd need to wait another day, and so on. Because you know there's at least 99 people with blue eyes, and everyone else also knows that, you'll have to wait until the 100th day to know for sure. At day 100, all the blue-eyed people will leave.

As for the swastika, yeah, it is one. What everyone seems to be leaving out are the two buildings to the southwest of the swastika, which are allied bombers on the way to bomb it. It's an architect's 'art' statement, and it's anti-nazi, not pro-nazi.

I think the sharpest point in the Malkin interview was how the counter-culture has become the mainstream so basically it's simply a pose or way of marketing oneself. Otherwise it seemed like a bunch of fairly innocuous observations.
